Our MissionThe GVWP Writing & Technology Workshop is a nonprofit program where students can explore writing, publishing, and multimedia technology.
Using a “workshop” approach that emphasizes both teamwork and individual responsibility, teachers and students work together to create an environment that supports productivity and learning. Students attend traditional lessons where they learn important writing skills, but they also meet in small groups in conferences with teachers and fellow students, and they spend plenty of time putting pen to paper. By offering guidance, encouragement, and time to develop ideas, teachers help participating students gain new confidence and skill as writers. This program also helps teachers to improve their classroom writing programs. Each participating teacher spends at least 45 hours in study groups to research, plan, and implement new instructional ideas. Program Partners:California State University, Stanislaus provides GVWP with administrative offices, faculty, clerical help, accounting, low-cost printing, and other services.
San Joaquin County Office of Education provides classrooms, computer labs, website hosting, and technical support. Ripon Unified School District provides classrooms, computer labs, and technical support. Give Every Child A Chance processes applications for our scholarship recipients, handles inquiries from Spanish-speaking parents, and assists families with online enrollment. Manteca Bulletin and Ripon Record raise community awareness about GVWP programs. Managers at Save Mart Supermarkets in Ripon help us purchase snacks at discount prices. |
